The local waters offer many types of fish including Sail Fish, Dolphin, King Mackerel, Wahoo, Tuna, Barracuda, Grouper, Snapper, Giant shark and even Blue Marlin fishing. We offer daily local trips or you can charter a three or more day trip to the Bahamas, less than 60 miles away.

Bolo is a teak and mahogany, fully customised 42' Whiticar sportfishing charter boat. Fully up-to-date, rigged with all the latest amenities, such as air conditioning, shower, full galley, state of the art electronics and the very best sportfishing tackle. Hillsboro Inlet is the home of the Hillsboro Lighthouse in Pompano Beach, Florida. 15 minutes from Fort Lauderdale & Boca Raton, 30 minutes from Palm Beach, an hour from Miami and two and a half hours from Orlando. We are easy to find off the 95 Freeway about an hour north of Miami airport and half and hour from Ft Lauderdale.

Bolo is licensed by the US Coast Guard and fully insured for up to 6 passengers. She has a captain who is in his mid-thirties but has 18 years experience fishing in the area. He is fully licensed by the US Coast Guard and subject to re-licencing and checking every 5 years. The mate is very competent, experienced in handling big fish and also has his Captain's licence. The crew know how to give 'hard core' hobbyist fishermen what they want but also how to teach beginners and kids to fish and have a good time. We enforce a drug and hard liquor free environment ( but we allow beer). We catch sailfish, king mackerel, wahoo, tuna, sharks of all sizes, amberjack, cobia, grouper and vermilion snapper amongst other fish. Dolphin (mahi-mahi) are a speciality and can sometimes present opportunities for spin casting and even ocean fly fishing.

We have two other Bolo boats:
BOLO FLATITUDE, an 18 ft 'flats' boat with a 125hp outboard with a captain and able to take up to three people on the Intra-coastal waterway to catch barracuda, tarpon and so on.

When is the best time to go?
There is no 'best time' because of the Gulf Stream. The fishing is good all year round although it varies with more sailfish in the winter months andmore dolphin in the summer etc. but there is always something fishily interesting passing by at around 4 knots in the wide, warm gulf-stream going North off the beach. We catch wahoo, the best-tasting fish in the sea nine months of the year but mostly around the full moon!

The Hillsboro Inlet is picturesque. It has one of the oldest still operating Lighthouses in the US. The beaches surrounding the are are broad, sandy and safe because of the off-shore reefs which start at the inlet and go all the way South to the Keys. They offer parasailing, ski-jet rentals, kite-surfing and all the beach sports. There are two public golf courses nearby, multiplex cinemas, etc.

Accommodation:
There are numerous hotels and self-catering motels in the area for all price ranges. Houses and apartments can be rented all year round but are cheapest in the off-season for the area which is from May through October.

Places to visit:

Fort Lauderdale has excellent hotels and night life. Car rental at Miami or Fort Lauderdale, the nearby airports, is very straight forward and affordable.

There are many interesting places near by. We are about one hour from wild alligators in the Everglades together with nearby visitor centres. Miami South Beach has an exotic 'front' and is about an hour a way. Boca Raton has superb shopping malls. Palm Beach has 'New York South' shopping and amazing homes to see. There is a huge discount mall 45 minutes away.

There are two fast roads to Orlando, Disney World, Cape Canaveral, Epcot etc in about 3 hours for a combination Disney/fishing holiday, the Keys are about two hours away and the Gulf about an hour and a half across the 'Alligator Alley' freeway through the Everglades.
