Cootehill is surrounded by some of the finest coarse fishing waters in Ireland. There are twenty six lakes for you to choose from; and then there are the rivers of the locality, the Dromore and Annalee, both of which are tributaries of the mighty River Erne. Within 10 miles, in any direction, there is superb coarse fishing.

The Cootehill area is, of course, extremely well known among match anglers, with regular competitions and Championship events held on the surrounding waters. What will a visitor catch? Roach, rudd, tench and bream abound, which inevitably means that there are lots of hybrids. One can also latch on to a shoal of large bream, though you have to look for them. Inevitably there are shoals of perch, some extremely large pike and trout.

Because Cootehill is at the centre of a Lakeland area, including many forests, it makes a perfect jump off point for touring Ireland’s northern counties. There’s lots for families to do and see....
