The Newport area has first class charter boats and experienced skippers and offers some of the best fishing form this area.

'Shamrock I' is a 33ft Aqua Star. She carries the latest electronics and fish finding aids, VHF radio, telephone, toilet, cooking facilities and a vast amount of fishing knowledge.

Newport, a small town on the Black Oak River, lies on the northern side of Clew Bay. Famous for the quality of its seatrout and salmon fishing. Newport is now well known for sea angling and for Ireland's famous lady skipper. Mary Gavin Hughes, born on a island out in the bay, who grew up knowing the sea and now shares her hard won knowledge with her angling guests aboard 'Shamrock I' Mary started sea fishing at three years of age with her grandfather, went to school by boat and at 16 years of age took anglers fishing in her father's boat!
The inner bay produces; rays, tope, conger, pollack, skate, huss and dogfish. In outer Clew Bay and around Clare Island, are quality marks ensuring catches of pollack, cod, ling, coalies, wrasse, gurnards and flatfish, among them megrim, dabs and turbot.
