Kinsale....
Sea angling among the very best
Kinsale has held a great reputation, among sea anglers, for a long time. The sea area abounds in famous offshore marks - The Ling Rocks, The Lusitania, Kinsale Old Head and The Hole Open! Most marks are within 3-12 miles offshore. It all begins with a superb natural harbour, among the finest in Europe, with a narrow entrance. As if guarding Kinsale, there is a fort on either side as the harbour opens out in front of the town and then narrows into the mouth of the River Bandon. If weather conditions are really foul Kinsale is one fishing venue that has shelter from most winds out from the west!
The professional skippers claim around 22 species regularly caught. In modern times there has been little mention of the big skate which were caught in the area off The Old Head. I sometimes wonder when they will be back. Blue shark are annual visitors and the quality of wreck and ground fishing is always reliable.
Skippers include: Willem-Jan van Dijk and Butch Roberts.
