Baltimore - the angling marks and species
Ireland's most southerly sea angling centre lies mid-way between two of the most famous marks - The Stags and Fastnet Rock. Bad weather does not spoil your holiday as there are numerous marks among the offshore islands. Baltimore, a top venue for shark, wreck and skate fishing, produces many fine species notably.... cod, ling, pollock, conger, turbot, coalfish and shark.
The Charter Boats
There are two, modern, purpose-built charter boats in the harbour. These consist of the following, 'Algerine', skipper Pat Fehily and 'Rooster', skippered by Nick Dent.
M.V. Rooster - Skippered by Nick Dent
"My first experience of Baltimore was as an angler in 1971. This proved to be the first of many visits, ending with a permanent move here as a skipper in 1979. Rooster is my third charter boat since then. "For a UK angler like me Baltimore was a bit of a revelation. Many of the species and the techniques used to catch them are familiar, but in terms of fish stocks it is like going back in time. And there is definitely something special about fishing in Ireland. Even in its heyday fishing back home was never quite like this . . . ."
