Lauklines is at Kattfjord, south west on Kvaløya, approx. 30 km from Tromsø airport. A trading post in the arctic area with a history rich in traditions, Lauklines has a well-preserved architecture and is orientated to hosting nature-loving vacationers. The centre is beautifully situated down by the water’s edge in Kattfjord, on the Whale Island. Kvaløya (The Whale Island) is a beautiful island, with fjords that scroll in between the mountains. The mountains reach from sea level up to over 1000 metres. The combination of mountains and fjords produce fantastic views that change with light, weather and season.
Lauklines has been linked to fishing for over 100 years. In earlier days it was a place for commercial fisheries to deliver their catches because it is very close to good fishing grounds. Fishing in northern Norway is challenging as you will catch bigger fish than in the south. The location in the Kattfjord and surrounding fjords enables you to fish in various wind directions. The best fishing marks are within 10 to 40 minutes.
Halibut
Most of all, Lauklines is known for its increasing and amazing halibut fishing. In the 2007 season guests caught over 200 halibut. Local fishermen regularly catch fish over 100kg every year. For instance, a 280kg halibut was caught in the area in the autumn of 2006. The best time for halibut fishing is May to September.
46 kg Halibut
Skrei, Coalfish, Wolf-fish, Redfish etc.
Another big attraction is the Skrei, big cod from the Barents Sea, that arrives here in spring. The chance to catch a cod above 20kg is very high then. The rest of the year you will only get coastal cod, which can grow pretty big too. When the bigger coalfish arrives in late summer, reeling them in can be challenging. 25 kg Cod
Smaller coalfish are available throughout the whole year and they are good bait for big cod and halibut. Fishing for wolf-fish is usually at its best from the end of May to July.
Haddock is very often caught in summer. 2007 was a good year for them both with regards to quantity and quality. Several guests caught fish above 4kg. Other commonly caught species are: tusk, ling, redfish, common dab and plaice.

In springtime you can fish for the famous Skrei (big cod from Barents Sea) which can reach up to two metres long. The word ‘skrei’ comes from Old Norse meaning ‘wanderer’. Skrei is one of the most important species of fish along the Norwegian coast, representing a livelihood for coastal dwellers since time immemorial. Skrei fishing is available from February to the beginning of April; during this time you can experience fantastic fishing for really big cod under the Northern Lights. At Lauklines you go on board on a 15x7 metre catamaran, customised for sport fishing. During the 10-hour guided fishing trip you will learn all about fishing
equipment, techniques and how to take care of the fish we keep. Fishing courses
